PROCRASTINATOR

So you’ve asked for a poem on procrastination,

I’m loving the idea – I share your fascination,

A poem about me!  A procrastinator,

I’ll have a cup of coffee and perhaps start later,

I’ll get your poem written come what may,

And I’ll begin very soon, but maybe not today.

You want the poem, to be showing, my procrastination,

My foible laid bare for your readers’ fascination,

So thanks I accept, your request is on file,

I’ll have a cup of tea and I’ll start in a while,

I’ve got it in mind, and I know you’re waiting,

For my expert account of procrastinating.

My concept of time can be a little loose,

But dare to suggest it and I’ll find an excuse,

A glance at my phone for some necessary scrolling,

Have a bit of lunch then I’ll get the ball rolling,

I will write this poem and I know you’re keen,

But don’t push me – I’m not a poem machine.

The title is written and I’ve tapped the keys,

That’s as far as I’ve got but no pressure please!

I need to figure out how it’s going to rhyme,

So I’ll take a little break now and have some me-time,

I’ll have it done and dusted in a week or so,

I need the right mood, to let the words flow.

A procrastination poem for a certain date?

That’s never going to happen – you’ll just have to wait!

I know you love the idea, I feel your fascination,

And soon you’ll get your poem, on procrastination,

A poem about me!  A procrastinator,

But it must ring true -

So I should start later.
